Its a good reminder of where we are in polling right now and where we are in the tickets, this is not a counter point to that diary but just a reminder of where those of us who push the importance of the election stand, and why we publish what we publish and why we say what we say.
The title of the diary is a direct quote from the movie Rocky. The quote was uttered from the trainer Mickey to fighter Rocky during his run up training to fight Apollo Creed. Rocky knew in his heart that he wanted to win, but Mickey was there to keep him staying the course. Mick knew he could or rather that he would win, but Mick wanted him to not just win but wanted him to CRUSH his opponent.
It's even cemented later in the film after the first round when Mick tells Rock, "Keep hittin'em in the ribs ya see? Don't let that bastard breathe! "
And this is where we are in politics at the moment. We have the republicans on the ropes, they are dazed and faltering. They are two stepping and staggering to find footing in this political boxing match. After last night and indeed after tonight they will find even less footing. We are entering the tenth round of this sparring match and we find ourselves ahead in points.
If you were to ask the judges (aka polls) they would tell us that we are ahead and will likely win, but if you ask the audience they think we are tied. What we need to do as ground troops is ensure that this election cycle we crush our opponents.
So that yes, while we are winning and we will crush them, we still must keep the quote from Mick in our heads. We must keep stead fast because we are gonna eat lightnin' and we're gonna crap thunder!
This year is not just about winning the fight, this year is about breaking the back of the GOP. We need not just win, we need to take this attitude towards the GOP this year.
We're coming up on the last two rounds of this fight, time to protect our flanks and keep hitting em in the ribs. Let's keep hitting them as hard as we can until they can't breathe and once the final bell is rung America can finally breathe a sigh of relief that we have moved forward.
